VESSELS UNTO HONOUR
(week 30/17)
DEOYE ABRAHAM OBE AND OLUBI JOHNSON

2Timothy 2:20-21 KJV: But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. (21) If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

WHAT?

VESSELS here speak of our physical bodies.

The great house speaks of the universal Body of Christ.

Paul reveals here that there are two categories of vessels:

(1) Gold, silver: which are unto honour or special uses.

(2) Wood and earth: which are to dishonour or ordinary mundane uses.

He gives the condition for any vessel to be unto honour: PURGING

This means that all start as wood and earth due to the sin nature in the soul and body.

However, God desires that we should all be vessels unto honour.

Romans 3:23 KJV: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

It is the sin nature that we inherited from Adam that flowed into man’s spirit, soul and body that short-circuited God’s glory in man.

It is this glory that God had used to honour man.

Psalms 8:5 KJV: for thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

It is the glory of God that confirms the ultimate honour of God on man.

God has said, He wants to once again bestow honour on man through His glory.

Esther 6:6 KJV: What shall be done unto the man whom the King (type of God) delighted to honour?

Esther 6:8 KJV: let the ROYAL APPAREL BE BROUGHT WHICH THE KING USETH TO WEAR

Psalms 104:1-2 KJV: Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. (2) Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain (Hab.3: 3,4, Eze 8:2).

That is our destiny: To inherit the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ through the glorious gospel.

2Thessalonians 2:14 KJV: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1Tim1: 11, Jn17: 22).

WHY?

The hour has come that the Son of man be glorified. Because the heathen are saying “where is thy God?” (Joel 2: 17).

John 12: 21…Saying we would see Jesus.

 John 12:23 KJV: And Jesus answered them, saying, the hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

HOW?

Malachi 3: 3 KJV: purge them as gold and silver (Jn.15: 2).

By purging out the sin nature in the soul and body, using the blood (Heb.13: 20,21), the Word (1Jn.2: 5) and the Spirit (1Jn.4: 12,13) as we serve Him (Rom.1.9) with our spirits praying with all types of prayer.

2Corinthians 7: 1 KJV: Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from ALL filthiness of the flesh and spirit (soul) perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

John 12:26 KJV: If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

Serve God with your spirit: Rom.1: 9.

Follow: imitate the way the Lord Jesus prayed: Heb. 5:7.

It is as we do this, that we become vessels that are sanctified:

1Thessalonians 4:3-4 KJV: For this is the will of God, even your sanctification that ye should abstain from fornication: (4)  That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

1Thessalonians 5:23 KJV: And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

THIS WILL CAUSE US TO BE PREPARED UNTO EVERY GOOD WORK LIKE HE DID:

Acts 10:38 KJV: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
