SAVING THE SOUL AND THE BODY
(week 30/12)

James 1:21 KJV: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Hebrews 10:39 KJV: But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

1Peter 1:9 KJV: receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

In these scriptures we are instructed about the saving of the soul.

What is the soul?

The soul is a part of the inner man: the spirit; but is separated from the rest of the spirit by the human will.

Hebrews 4:12 KJV: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Observe that the spirit and soul and body (represented as joints and marrow) are separate entities that can be divided by the Word of God.

For instance, a room that is inside a larger room and adjacent to one of the walls, cordoned off and separated by walls and a door from the rest of the larger room, is picture of how the soul is a ‘room’ in the larger ‘room’ of your spirit, but is separated from the rest of your spirit by your will.

It is possible to have the larger room clean and full of light and the smaller room dirty and in darkness because it is separated from the rest of the larger room of which it is a part.

This is why though, your spirit is born-again and has the life and light of God in it, your soul being separate from the rest of your spirit by your will, still has the sin-nature and the darkness in it.

John 3:6 KJV: That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

John 6:47 KJV: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

So the spirit is full of the life of God, but soul is not; so the soul needs to be saved.

Ephesians 4:17-18 MKJV: This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should not walk from now on as other nations walk, in the vanity of their mind,  (18) having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.

The essence of Christianity is to ‘pump’ the life of God from the Spirit into the soul and then into the physical body by the power of the Holy Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV: And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In our article next week, we will look at the saving of the soul and body in more detail.
