DIVINE DECREES
(week 07/11)
Olubi Johnson

Psalms 2:7 KJV: I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

A divine decree as shown above is a pronouncement of the will of God spoken into the earth, not subject to human debate or appeal. It will be accomplished irrespective of human or demonic opposition by the force of spiritual arms through the ministry of angels.

God issues divine decrees into the earth to overrule human laws or decrees of human governments that are contrary to the divine will.

Daniel 3:28-29 KJV: Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. (29) Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

Here, we see God through the faith of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, overruled the un-righteous decree of Nebuchadnezzar and through Nebuchadnezzar issued a divine decree that no one was to blaspheme the God of Israel!

Daniel 4:17 KJV:  This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Here, we see a divine decree issued into the earth through Daniel’s interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, which would bring severe divine judgment on Nebuchadnezzar so that he would acknowledge that the true God of heaven ruled in the affairs of men:

Daniel 4:33-37 KJV:  The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. (34) And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: (35) And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? (36) At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me. (37) Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

Now, it is instructive to note that divine decrees are given by God through men who, like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, position themselves, through prayer and living a life of obedience, to be entrusted with such divine favour and responsibility.

We see this explicitly stated in:

Job 22:23 KJV:  If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

Job 22:28 KJV:  Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

There are three conditions shown in the scripture above:

1. Return to God: turn away from our wicked ways of rejection or ignoring of the instruction of the wisdom of the just:

Psalms 50:16-17 NIV:  But to the wicked, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? (17) You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.

2. Get built up by the Word and the Spirit

Acts 20:32 KJV:  And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

Jude 1:20 KJV:  But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

3. Put away iniquity from your tabernacle: will, mind, emotions and physical body by dominating sin.

As we practice these things, we will be in a position to issue divine decrees into the earth that will be established to us!
