JESUS IS OUR INSURANCE
(week 05/14)
OLUBI & SARAH JOHNSON

Hebrews 7:22 AMP: In keeping with [the oath’s greater strength and force], Jesus has become the Guarantee of a better (stronger) agreement [a more excellent and more advantageous covenant].

Here, the Holy Spirit, through Paul, tells us that the Lord Jesus is the Guarantee of the New Covenant.

Today, we could use the word insurance: Jesus is the insurance backing or guaranteeing the New Covenant.

To have a better understanding of what this means in practice, consider what a natural insurance company does: they guarantee that if your car or house that is insured with them has an accident or is destroyed, the insurance company will pay for the repairs or a replacement with a new car or house.

The financial assets of the insurance company is what gives you confidence to insure your property with them, KNOWING that in the event of a claim, they will be able to meet their financial or material obligations to you.

Why do we insure our properties?

To guarantee that we will not lose them in the event of human error, accidents or natural disasters.

God has promised us the blessings of the new birth, baptism of the Holy Spirit, healing, deliverance, financial prosperity, divine protection and ultimately the perfection and fulness of Christ in the New Testament.

Jesus is the Guarantee or Insurance that we will not lose these blessings because of our sins and human weaknesses and failings.

Psalms 89:3-4 KJV: I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,  (4) Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

Now, just like in the natural, you do not deliberately go and have an accident or burn your house down, in the spirit, you do not deliberately go and sin by omission and commission to allow Satan to rob you (Jn. 10.10) of these blessings; however, when you do sin, you have an insurance in the Lord Jesus to guarantee you do not lose ALL these blessings:

1 John 2:1-2 ESV: My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.  (2) He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

Psalms 89:30-35 AMP: If his children forsake My law and walk not in My ordinances,  (31) If they break or profane My statutes and keep not My commandments,  (32) Then will I punish their transgression with the rod [of chastisement], and their iniquity with stripes. [II Sam. 7:14.]  (33) Nevertheless, My loving-kindness will I not break off from him, nor allow My faithfulness to fail [to lie and be false to him].  (34) My covenant will I not break or profane, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips.  (35) Once [for all] have I sworn by My holiness, which cannot be violated; I will not lie to David:

Now, natural insurance companies will pay for any damage you incur by accidents; however, how much they will pay will depend on:

1. Your reporting the accident and damage to them as soon as possible.

2. Your regular payment of the premium on your insurance.

3. The amount of premium you pay.

So also in the Spirit how much God is able to give back to you even when you sin will depend on:

1. How quickly you repent and forsake the sin:

Proverbs 28:13 ESV: Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

2. How diligent (consistent) you are in your daily, weekly and monthly prayers.

Hebrews 11:6 NKJV: But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

3. The quality of your prayer life.

James 5:16 NKJV:  Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

In our article next week, we will see in more detail how to FULLY benefit from your insurance in the Lord Jesus.
