Occupying the Air
(week 35/03)

Ephesians 2:2-3 (KJV) Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

In this scripture Satan is called the prince of the power of the air.

The air around is full of satanic power, in the form of a substance called spiritual death. This substance is released daily into the air through the words of unbelievers whose hearts are full of this spiritual death (the satanic nature). Their mouths are simply speaking from the abundance of their hearts:

Proverbs 18:21 (KJV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Luke 6:45 (KJV)  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

This spiritual death in the air is used by Satan and his principalities and powers to dominate the thoughts, words, circumstances and actions of men without them being conscious of the fact that they are being remotely controlled by Satan.

It was spiritual death that bombarded Jesus’ mind and flesh causing him to be tempted in every way like us (Hebrews 4.15). However, He overcame it daily by effectual, fervent prayer in the fear of God:

Hebrews 5:7 (KJV) Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;

The present violence in the Middle East, and homosexuality in the priesthood in the traditional Church are examples of how Satan is using spiritual death in the air to dominate and corrupt the thinking of men to self-destruction and sin.

The challenge now is for the Church to arise to occupy the air with the power of the Holy Spirit to influence men for good and not evil, so that the will of God will be done in the earth as it is in heaven.

In our article next week we will see how we are to occupy the air.
