The Sufficiency of His Grace 2
(week 33/02)
Olubi Johnson

In our last article we saw that although iniquity and evil are abounding in the church, the grace of God is sufficient to abound much more.

In our article this week we want to see how to tap into that sufficiency of God’s grace.

Grace and Life

In our article on ‘Grace and Law’ we saw that the grace of God is undeserved favour that God shows us that in turn releases a measure of God’s life, eternal life, into our lives or situation. This eternal life is very substance that God is made of and so has in it whatever wisdom or power that we need to overcome whatever situation we may be facing in which sin or iniquity is abounding. So the grace of God becomes our sufficiency in any situation in which we may find ourselves.

In a sense, our lives are like a chess game between the devil and us. Satan always seems to be able to play first and initially has the upper hand, taking a few of our chess pieces. However, if we can tap successfully into the grace of God, the master chess player, who knows what Satan is thinking and planning to do, we can always checkmate Satan in every situation.

How to make grace abound more than sin

To make grace abound more than sin or iniquity we need:

1. Humility

2. Prayer in the spirit

3. Speak, Meditate and Do the Word.

Humility

The key to tapping into the grace of God is humility.

Humility is simply submitting to the will of God even when you don’t feel it. It is making a decision of the will to do the will of God when it is not convenient for your flesh or your pride. It is a decision you need to make daily as part of the daily cross (Luke 9: 23) you are called to carry to follow the example of Christ.

1 Peter 5:5 (KJV) Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

The more humble you are the greater the measure of grace, or eternal life, that will be given to you. The greater the measure of life you receive from God the easier it will be to do the will of God and overcome the enemy.

Prayer in the Spirit

At the beginning of each day after humbling yourself under the mighty hand of God by making the decision to do His will even when you do not feel like it, pray in the spirit for 1 or 2 hours continuously. This is to release the power of God into your life and circumstances for that day and also to fellowship with God speaking the mysteries of the Kingdom to get revelation knowledge.

Romans 8:26 (KJV) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Here, the scripture reveals that the Holy Spirit will help us overcome our infirmities and pray about details of things we do not know as He intercedes for us with tongues and groanings as we pray in the Spirit. This causes us to tap into the grace of God to overcome whatever infirmity (or weakness of the flesh) and its consequent effect of the sin and iniquity it has produced in our lives and circumstances. So wherever sin or iniquity or evil may have abounded the grace will much more abound!

1 Corinthians 14:2 (KJV) For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

Also when we pray in the spirit the Holy Spirit speaks mysteries through us that He later reveals to us through the Word. See our articles on ‘Seeing things to come’ for more details. So when we pray in the spirit we tap, by the sufficiency of God’s grace, into the infinite wisdom of God to overcome whatever evil may be abounding in our lives or circumstances.

After praying for 1-2 hours in the spirit at the beginning of each day you should also pray in the spirit anytime you have the opportunity to do so. Paul said ‘I thank my God I speak in tongues more than ye all’ (1 Cor. 14: 18) and ‘ I would you all spake in tongues’ (1 Cor. 14: 5). So speaking in tongues is a powerful spiritual weapon you should use diligently, and daily.

If you are not able to pray for 1-2 hours, start where you are, say 5-15 minutes, and improve gradually. God will see the sincerity of your heart and will help you.

Speak, Meditate and Do the Word

Also to tap into the sufficiency of God’s grace we need to speak, meditate and practice doing God’s Word daily.

Make positive confessions from the Word concerning your walking in love and the fruit of the spirit, healing, protection, prosperity and whatever specific situations you may be facing.

With the background of humility and prayer in the spirit there will be sufficient power released when you speak God’s Word into your situation to change it supernaturally.

Meditate the Word by daily bible reading (See our Bible reading guide for details) and maintain a vigilant thought life. See every temptation that comes to your mind as an opportunity to meditate on the Word that counteracts that temptation.

If tempted with immorality say in your heart ‘I love righteousness and hate sin and in the presence of God there is fullness of joy and strength to do God’s will and pleasures greater than the pleasure of sin’.

If tempted with worry say in your heart ‘ I cast all my cares on the Lord’.

Whatever your situation as you imbibe the Word the relevant thought will come to your remembrance by the Holy Spirit to ‘bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ’ (2 Cor. 10: 5)

With all of this in the background: humility, prayer in the spirit, speak and meditating God’s Word just act on the Word and you will find victory and that indeed ‘His grace is sufficient’ (2 Cor. 12:9).

If this is your daily habit you will find that even on days when you are not able to pray as you should or read your bible or even speak or meditate the Word as you should, you will still find that His grace is sufficient (2 Cor. 12:9).
