POWER OF GODLINESS 2
(week 05/09)
Olubi Johnson

In our last article, we saw that the power of Godliness is God’s power to make you like God, who is love.

We further saw that you need to grow in grace to have the power of God in sufficient measure to overcome the abounding iniquity of the end-time so to consistently be like God in the nature of your soul and body and in your conduct.

Now, you grow in grace by growing in humility and so in revelation of spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Now, God will never allow you to be tempted above what you are able to bear (1 Cor. 10.13), so at every stage of your spiritual development, there will always be sufficient grace (2 Cor. 12.9) to have a sufficient amount of the power of God to overcome all the un-godliness coming against your soul and body.

It is vital to understand that there is satanic power in the air and in soul and body that seeks to make men think and act like Satan rather than like God:

Ephesians 2:2-3 ESV in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience– (3) among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

Romans 7:16-25 MKJV If then I do that which I do not desire, I consent to the law that it is good. (17) But now it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me. (18) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwells no good thing. For to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I do not find. (19) For I do not do the good that I desire; but the evil which I do not will, that I do. (20) But if I do what I do not desire, it is no more I working it out, but sin dwelling in me. (21) I find then a law: when I will to do the right, evil is present with me. (22) For I delight in the Law of God according to the inward man; (23) but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin being in my members. (24) O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? (25) I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then with the mind I myself serve the Law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

We overcome this Satanic power in the air and in the flesh by generating, releasing and receiving a sufficient amount of the power of godliness each day into our souls, bodies and circumstances using the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1-2 ESV There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (2) For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

We generate the power of God by travailing prayer in the Spirit to ‘birth’ the power of God from our spirits by the Holy Spirit into our souls, bodies and circumstances as a daily habit like the Lord Jesus did:

Hebrews 5:7-8 MKJV For Jesus, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong cryings and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared, (8) though being a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.

Isaiah 66:8 MKJV Who has heard a thing like this? Who has seen things like these? Will the earth be brought forth in one day? Or will a nation be born at once? For Zion travailed and also brought forth her sons.

Colossians 4:12 MKJV Epaphras greets you, he being of you, a servant of Christ, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

Galatians 4:19 MKJV My children, for whom I again travail until Christ should be formed in you,

It is instructive to note that where we are not able to generate enough of the power of Godliness because of spiritual immaturity or weakness, God will supplement what we have generated through the covering of spiritual fathers who are praying with travail for us on a consistent daily, weekly or monthly basis so causing the power of godliness available to us be sufficient.

We release the power of Godliness by confessing the Word of God on the love of God and praying in tongues after each confession to ‘distribute’ the released power in specific details to overcome infirmities we do not know by the Holy Spirit:

Romans 8:26-27 MKJV Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (27) And He searching the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

We receive the power of Godliness by ‘washing our feet’ frequently throughout the day (at least once every six hours (2 Sam. 6.13, Dt. 6.7, Mk. 13.35) by receiving the life of God, praying in tongues and acknowledging the Lord (Pr. 3.6) in our thinking for mercy to be faithful to do all things with love (1 Cor. 16.13, 14) in deeds of charity, kindness (Jam. 1.27) and where necessary discipline (Rev. 3.19):

Jude 1:20-21 MKJV But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, (21) keep yourselves in the love of God, eagerly awaiting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to everlasting life.

Proverbs 23:7 MKJV for as he thinks in his heart, so is he; Eat and drink, he says to you, but his heart is not with you.

1 Corinthians 7:25 MKJV (25) But concerning virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord. Yet I give my judgment, as one who has obtained mercy from the Lord to be faithful.

As we practice this, our souls, bodies and actions will be dominated by the power of Godliness and not the sin nature in the soul, body and in the air, causing us to be godly: God-like in nature and conduct!
