Rescuing Lost Sheep
(week 15/07)
Olubi Johnson

We wish all our readers a joyful Easter celebration with a fresh revelation and understanding of the victory we have through the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Luke 15:3-10(NIV):  3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbours together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. 8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbours together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Here, the Lord Jesus tells us that God cares for and seeks to save lost sheep.

Now who are lost sheep?

Ezekiel 34:31(NKJV): 31 “You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord GOD.’ ”

John 10:16(NKJV): 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

These are men who have not yet been born-again: not Christians who have been born again and left their local church or have departed from the faith. Such people are lost sons not lost sheep.

Since God is not willing that any should perish (2 Peter. 3.9) the Lord wants to seek and rescue lost sheep by spirit-led evangelism.

Next week we will see how God rescues lost children in contrast to lost sheep.
